What is cron expression?

A cron expression is a string of 5 (or 6) fields representing a schedule: minute, hour, day of month, month, and day of week. Each field can be a value, range, list, or special character like * (any) or */n (every n).

Why Use This Tool

  • Scheduled tasks — Set up cron jobs on Linux servers.
  • GitHub Actions — Schedule workflow runs with cron triggers.
  • CI/CD pipelines — Configure scheduled builds and deployments.
  • Database backups — Schedule automated backup scripts.
  • Monitoring — Set up periodic health checks.

Tips

  • * means "every" — 0 * * * * runs every hour at minute 0.
  • */n means "every n" — */15 runs every 15 units.
  • Commas separate multiple values: 1,15 means 1 and 15.
  • Hyphens define ranges: 1-5 means 1 through 5.
